Class of 2024
Christina

Cristina Cervantes – graduated summa cum laude with a BS Manufacturing Engineering degree with a Mechanical Systems concentration, and Applied Math and Business minors. She made the Dean’s List each semester and received the LBJ Outstanding Senior Award. Cristina was an active member of the Society for Women Engineers (SWE) and the Society for Professional Hispanic Engineers (SHPE) student organizations. She provided STEM tutoring in the Collaborative Learning Center and the Math Cats Tutoring Center. Cristina completed two internships as an undergraduate with Mears Group, Inc., Austin, TX and with NXP Semiconductors, Austin, TX. Her Senior Design Team won the Industry Award for best presentation during Senior Design Day at Texas State University. She has accepted a position with NXP Semiconductors, Austin, TX.

Jaxon

Jaxon Castillo – graduated with a BS Electrical Engineering degree with a Networks and Communication concentration and an Applied Math minor. He was president of the Texas State Swim Club and an active member of the Society for Hispanic Engineers (SHPE) student organization.  Jaxon worked as a power systems intern with TRC Companies, Austin, TX and provided STEM tutoring in the Collaborative Learning Center while completing his undergraduate degree.  His senior design team won the Industry Award for best EE presentation at Senior Design Day at Texas State. He has accepted a position as electrical engineer for Northrup Gruman, Baltimore, MD. 

Abdullah

Abdullah Kamal – graduated magna cum laude with a BS degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. He was Vice-President of the Google Developer Club, Vice-President for the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), and Secretary for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) student organizations. Abdullah provided STEM tutoring in the Collaborative Learning Center. He was involved in multiple research projects and was co-author on two journal publications: No-Fly-Zone: Regulating Drone Fly-Overs Via Government and User-Controlled Authorization Zones and Image to Text Recognition for Detecting Human and Machine Altered News in Social Media.  Abdullah presented his research at multiple conferences and symposia. He worked as a Unmanned Aerial Systems Security Research intern at the iCORE Lab at Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi, TX and as a software engineering intern for Dell Technologies, Austin, TX. Abdullah has accepted a position as machine learning intern with Material Hybrid Manufacturing, San Marcos, TX and as an artificial intelligence intern with Radical AI. 

Axel

Axel Sanchez Moreno- graduated summa cum laude with a BS degree in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics and made the Dean’s List every semester.  He was an active member in the Honors College and President of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) student organization.  He received the RH Bing award for the Outstanding Undergraduate Math major.  Axel provided STEM Tutoring in the Collaborative Learning Center and for Student Support Services. He was involved in multiple research projects and was accepted into UCLA Computational and Applied Mathematics REU, the Summer Undergraduate Program in Engineering Research at the University of California- Berkley, and the Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) REU at The National University of Singapore, Singapore. Axel presented his research at multiple conferences and symposia and is co-author for the journal publication:  Combining Dynamic Mode Decomposition and Difference-in-Differences in an Analysis of At-Risk Youth. 2022 IEEE International Conference on Big Data.  He has been accepted into the PhD Program in Computational Applied Mathematics and Operations Research (CMOR). Rice University. Houston, TX.

Veronika

Veronika Krylova – graduated with a BS degree in Civil Engineering. She served as a Residential Assistant in Sterry Hall and Bobcat Village. Veronika worked as a research assistant in the Soil Mechanics Laboratory and the Hwang Co-Friendly Development for Green Environment (HEDGE) Laboratory both in the Ingram School of Engineering.  Veronika provided STEM tutoring in math, engineering, and science courses in The Collaborative Learning Center and was vice-President for the Texas State Gymnastics Club. She has accepted a position as civil engineer with BGE, Inc., Austin, TX.
