You will belong to a unique community of students in the college of Science and Engineering who are recognized for their academic excellence and ambition to pursue graduate study and a STEM career. It is an honor to be an H-LSAMP scholar!. You will receive a participant stipend, typically $3000+ per long semester and will participate in research, academic and professional conferences, faculty mentoring, internships, interdisciplinary seminars and workshops, service learning and volunteer projects, resume and personal statement development, group meetings and social events. You will be an integral part of the College of Science and Engineering's Collaborative Learning Center.
Program Application and Requirements and Eligibility
THE HLSAMP PROGRAM IS NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS AT THIS TIME.
We believe it is important for all applicants to be aware that H-LSAMP is not simply a financial award. Students in our program commit to a variety of academic and personal enrichment activities – and they are required each semester. These activities are at the core of our mission to help students succeed in what are traditionally recognized as rigorous academic majors and demanding career paths in science and engineering.
In order to stay in the program, students must complete all program requirements and maintain academic eligibility. Students are evaluated throughout and at the conclusion of every semester.
Program Eligibility and Requirements - What is expected of Texas State H-LSAMP scholars?
You must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student in the College of Science and Engineering
You must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
You must remain a full-time student (at least 12 hours per long semester) and maintain a Texas State, major, and semester GPA of 2.5 and above.
You are required to submit and complete your individual Scholar Development Plan each semester, participate actively in the Collaborative Learning Center, and attend all mandatory H-LSAMP activities and events. You can read a bit more about the required activities for H-LSAMP students below.
H-LSAMP students' records and completion of requirements are reviewed after each semester, and the level of continued support will be determined, in part, by your grade performance, level of participation in the scholar community, and progress toward your degree (hours and grades completed each semester).
Applicants who are juniors or seniors should have at least four long semesters and two summers left prior to graduating (beginning with their first semester in our program).
You must have every intention of graduating from Texas State in no more than five years with a B.S. degree in the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
What do Texas State H-LSAMP scholars do?
Plan ahead through personalized advising and career preparation; create a Scholar Development Plan
Learn through mentoring and research with faculty and program mentors
Participate in interdisciplinary and career-related workshops, our film and book discussion group, community service, student and professional conferences, and social events
Provide tutoring in basic and advanced STEM courses in the Collaborative Learning Center
Develop a well-written resume and personal statement
Prepare for graduate school and a professional career in the sciences and engineering
Make good friends and build "H-LSAMP spirit" through our G.O.A.L. team building and leadership training activities
All H-LSAMP scholars complete one or more of the following tracks each semester:
- Research: work with department faculty members in a research lab at Texas State
- Project: academic or career-related internship, instructional or laboratory assistant, STEM student organization projects, community service
- Conference: present your research at a professional conference in your field of study
All H-LSAMP scholars will also:
- Tutor two hours per week in the Collaborative Learning Center
- Mentoring: three mentoring meetings (minimum) over the course of each semester
- Continuing education workshops - two per semester
